The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed hosting rights for three major youth continental tournaments and locked in a date for the 2026 Super Cup after its latest Executive Committee meeting in Cairo.
Egypt will host the 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament that doubles as Africa’s qualifier for the football competition at the 2028 Olympic Games. Ghana has been awarded the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, while Morocco will stage the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, further strengthening the continent’s youth football development calendar.
Zimbabwean football followers will be keeping a close eye on these age-group competitions, as they shape the pathway for the country’s emerging talent and future qualification campaigns across CAF events.
CAF also announced that the 2026 CAF Super Cup will take place on 8 November 2026 in Pretoria, South Africa, with kick-off set for 15:00 local time. The annual showpiece brings together the winners of CAF’s premier club competitions and will add another high-profile fixture to the African football calendar.
Meanwhile, discussions surrounding the proposed African Nations League remain ongoing, with its format and potential host countries yet to be finalised. The Executive Committee also reaffirmed CAF’s full support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the FIFA leadership, signalling continuity in the continental body’s engagement with global football governance.
These decisions provide further clarity on Africa’s international football calendar, particularly at youth level, while preparations continue for major senior and club competitions.
